Engineering changes

Change a BoM on a copy, with approvals, versions and differences, then apply it when it is ready.

An engineering change lets you change a product safely. You work on a copy of its bill of materials, so running orders aren't touched. This comes with Business.

Start a change

Go to Engineering changes and click New change, or click Start a change on a BoM.

  • What is this change? and Why?
  • Type - BoM updates and New products are there to start with.
  • Applies to - A bill of materials, or Just the product's documents.
  • Takes effect - As soon as it is applied, or On a date.
  • Responsible

Anyone on the floor can also click Suggest a change on an open order.

Work on the copy

  1. Click Start revision. This makes the working copy.
  2. Click Edit the working copy. Change components, steps and files. Orders use it only after the change is applied.
  3. The change shows the differences from the BoM in use.
  4. Move it through its stages. A stage with approvers waits for all of them to Approve or Reject. Waiting approvals show as a number on the menu.
  5. Click Apply changes. New orders use the new version, and the old version is archived.

Orders that used the old version keep it. A BoM's Version history lists every change applied.

If the BoM changed meanwhile

If someone changed the BoM in use while you were working, you'll see Rebase. It takes the BoM in use as the starting point, keeping what this change itself changed.

Types of change

Under Settings > Change types, add types and their stages. For each stage, choose its Approvers and whether it is the Last stage.
